new etude AND new site

By jon steinmeier

hey friends,

thing 1: etude number 4 is now posted HERE. this one is the “pretty” one, and the longest of the bunch.  i’m still a little on the fence about it.  i’m happy with the theme and general idea, but may try and trim it down a bit.  stay tooned.  :)

thing 2:  i just launched www.steinimation.com as a host for stop-animation shorts i’ve been making.  hope you like them!  they’re ridiculous.

love,

steiny

    Jonathan:

I am enjoying your Piano Etudes enormously! I wrote down some words that came to mind as I listened to each one, then noticed that some of the same words are part of your descriptions of the pieces. Which confirms your own sense of your compositions. My jottings — Piano Etude 1, Eastern European, intriguing, delightful; Piano Etude 2, lilting, dancing; Piano Etude 3, charming, mischievous; Piano Etude 4, haunting, captivating, rich. Keep up the great work!

    Love,

    Dad

    more soon!

    love you too,

Who would have thought how much I love etudes! I can’t stop listening to these, bro! They all rock, but number four is definitely my favorite. OUTSTANDING!

thanks brother! it’s been fun for me to write ‘em! i’m hoping to crank a few more out in the next week. and it’s funny cause “etude” is a pretty wide open form in my thinking, and is a nice way to limit yourself per piece. constraints often create focused pieces.

I really like this one. It would work perfectly for some kind of movie soundtrack.

thanks “lepton”. :) i dig the soundtrack idea. it does feel like that…
